Welcome to the Dolls House Theatre

Author describes his motivation behind Dolls House Theatre. He reflects on childhood memories of a visiting a pantomime in the 1970s and being inspired to create a puppet theatre with curtains, scenery and lighting.

In this article we look at items required for our model theatre. The proscenium, rigging system, lighting, auditorium, boxes, seating, stage surface trap doors, orchestra pit, columns and curtains

In this we compare two real theatres that include items we require in our model and use them as inspiration for our design. We cover prosceniums, auditoriums, seating, stage, traps, curtains, orchestra pits.

In this article we look at how scale and imagination play an important part of theatre design. We look at how a simple cake stand can be used to calculate the scale of the model. We also decide on a unit of measurement for the model theatre.

We look at the methods used for designing on a computer. We look at Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and discover how dimensions, guides and layers help make up a technical drawing. We look at side, top and front elevations.

After months of work, I'm pleased to be able to launch this shiney new web site. This is the first of its kind on the internet and we really hope you like it!

Now the research of our model theatre is complete we move onto the computer design phase. For this task we'll be using methods commonly used in architectural design.

Now the design phase is over we've started working on the the proscenium arch. This includes the wood turnings and plastic columns.
